Cat James

Childhood treasures torso

Price £500.00

This curiously quirky cartoon style sculpture called 'Childhood Treasures'  is a mannequin torso covered with an original vintage collage of children's comic strips from the 1970s and 80s. The images are soaked in PVA glue for about a minute then moulded around each section of the torso, which is then left to dry and coated with a UV protective glaze. The freestanding fiberglass cast is very light weight and could be displayed on a small plinth (you might find something suitable at Ikea!) or a nice little vintage side table. The approximate dimensions are 43 cm wide x 87 cm high x 22 cm deep. Each torso is totally unique and made from original retro cuttings individually for you, so please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery. Two different torsos are pictured here - you are more than welcome to email us and specify your favourite comic strips or whether you'd like to use boys' or girls' comic illustrations for your sculpture.

Young artist Cat James is inspired by childhood and old fashioned imagery - especially the sort of pictures found in old children's annuals and comics. Cat uses her inspiration to create a story-like pieces of work (in this case the playful anecdotes of childhood innocence), combining her love of casting objects in plaster and resin with her trademark retro collages. These curiously collectable pop-art sculptures brighten up any room and make a great investment too.
