Quirky ceramic jug - Maria das batallas

Price £65.00

Quirky, hand-painted, Picasso-inspired jug or vase - a classic example from Galician (Spanish) ceramic specialists, Sargadelos. This unusual porcelain piece represents the figure of María das batallas (María of the Battles), or María Pita - who gained fame during the attack on the city of A Coruña, carried out by the troops of Francis Drake in the sixteenth century. She is seen as a bringer of good fortune. The vase measures approximately 27 cm tall x 11 cm at widest. Very good used condition.

This is a relatively recent retro piece, but I adore its quirky charm and curiously colourful Spanish design. Great if you are a collector of Sargadelos’ distinctive chinaware, but if not this would make an unusual gift, or perhaps a uniquely decorative jug for your kitchen.
