1940s Brad Keeler three piece lobster plate set

Price £150.00

Collectable three piece 1940s glazed ceramic tableware set, consisting of serving dish with magnificent decorative lobster and two side plates with lobster claw feature. The large plate measures 36 cm in diameter and the smaller plates are 22 x 24 cm. These come in very good vintage condition, with just one extremely small nick on the edge of the large plate (as shown). Each piece is signed and numbered by the artist.

Brad Keeler’s pottery is well known in his birth State of California. Keeler specialized in naturalistic figures of birds and animals. In the mid-40s he developed a brilliant red glaze which he called Ming Dragon Blood – as seen on these curiously colourful lobster embellishments. Keeler worked from his artwares factory in Los Angeles, before moving to larger premises in San Juan Capistrano in 1952 – the same year that he tragically died of a heart attack. I’ve seen a few of Keeler’s plates up for sale, but not this three piece set featuring the larger sized lobster dish. This would be of interest to a collector of retro kitchenware, or perhaps as an unusual gift for a cook – or a unique wedding present.
