Ammonite fossil pendant

Price £140.00

This large ammonite pendant will certainly get you noticed. It is said that ammonite is a stone of protection, stability and grounding, which also provides insight into the future so that decisions can be made. In folk lore, the stone is supposed to help breathing, ease birthing pains and bring relaxation. Now extinct, the ammonite mollusk was a shelled cephalopod, usually appearing in a coiled, spiral shape. The extinction of ammonites coincided with the extinction of dinosaurs. Ammonites inhabited the world's oceans and now appear as fossils in marine rocks: they are very handy for indexing and dating the rocks. This example is around 12 cm in diameter. It's attached to a natural coloured leather thong with a simple silver hook fastening.

The word ammonite is derived from Ammon, an Egyptian god who took the form of a ram (ammonites are a bit similar in appearance to the ram's horn). Feng Shui masters apparently believe it to be linked to the scales of a mythical creature, Chi Lin. It's said to be a powerful wealth stone, bringing prosperity, grandeur and illustrious sons. In India, ammonites are identified with the god Vishnu and used in various ceremonies. They're mostly collected in Nepal, from the bed of the River Gandaki and are known as 'shaligram shila'. Curiously cosmic!
