Classic 1940s Corde handbag with tortoisehell style clasp

Price £70.00

Well used vintage 1940s ‘Corde’ handbag. Corde bags were created using rows of gimp in unique patterns, stitched to a fabric background and were advertised as being the longest wearing of all handbag fabrics. Tortoiseshell Lucite handles were added for a distinct look, as in the bag available here. This example is in fair vintage condition, although the inside of the bag is a little worn. The bag measures approximately 23 x 26 x 3 cm with a handle length of around 15 cm.

The fact that this is still around today is a testament to the longevity of the Corde handbag. This bag is a really handy size, with plenty of room and a comfortably used feel about it. What’s more the stunning tortoiseshell style clasp and black Corde combo works well with many different colours. Curiously classic and classy, this bag will definitely set you apart from your average high street shopper – and could prove to be a great investment too … especially if it lasts for another 65-70 years.
