Fashion Drawing by Francis Marshall (1941 edition)

Price £35.00

1941 first edition of charmingly illustrated book by one of the most famous fashion illustrators of the 1940s and '50s. One of the Studio, How to do It series (No.30), the book has 96 pages and measures 25.5 x 19 x 2 cm. Generally good condition, considering the age: dust jacket has a few tears and is a little faded (as shown) and the first few pages have been marked by a rusty paper clip. Otherwise, all pages present and very good.

This curiously retro book is a real treasure and highly collectable, as well as being a very useful source of information. The book encompasses the history of fashion illustration, advertising and the press as well as drawing techniques, the fashion industry and the 1940s lifestyle. Best of all are the fabulous sketches, not just from Marshall, but also from other artists and illustrators of the early 20th century, including Charles Dana Gibson, Ruth Sigrid Grafstrom, Carl Erikson, Count Rene de Bouet Willaumez, Ruth Sheradski, Pearl Falconer and many more.
