Curiously charming vintage book by French artist and designer, Raymond Peynet (1908-1999), who became world renowned in the 1950s and ‘60s for his whimsical characters, ‘Les Amoreux de Peynet’ (Peynet’s Lovers): a bowler-hatted poet and his fiancee– the long-suffering subject of his romantic overtures. The lovers were recreated on porcelain, scarves, dolls, books, film, statues (such as the one in Hiroshima, Japan) – where the message they conveyed was one of peace, love and enduring romance. Peynet’s books were first published in the UK by Perpetua and this copy is dated 1959. The book measures 20.5 x 16 cm. Available in very good condition.
