Victorian engraved conch shell I

Intricately hand carved Victorian conch shell, featuring the head of a curly haired gentleman. Hole to one end of shell means that this could be turned into a small lamp, or placed over a tea light. Measures approximately 12 cm high x 9 cm wide. Very good vintage condition.

This beautifully decorated shell a veritable masterpiece of artisan handicraft – I wonder how long it took to complete the engraving… A fabulous curiosity and an heirloom piece, this would suit a collector or someone who appreciates unique historical artefacts.
