Victorian mauve velvet and jet beaded jacket

Authentic late Victorian mauve velvet evening cape/jacket with superb black lace and jet bead trim and floor length moiré ribbon to rear. Violet silk lining with original label of LA Sear, Bond Street, London. There are a few tiny pulls to the lining at the edge of the label and some marks on the moiré ribbon, which are possibly caused by an iron. Otherwise, considering its age, this jacket is in excellent museum-quality condition. Approx 50 cm long to rear.

I’m not sure whether you’d call this vintage or antique. There’s a big debate about what constitutes vintage/retro clothing and what’s defined as historical costume. Whatever the answer, the amazing thing is that this original Victorian jacket is still wearable to this day and I’m sure it would be a focal point of conversation, if worn to an appropriately glitzy event. Of course, you might want to keep this in a glass case on your wall – as an original piece of high quality Victorian craftsmanship and a collectable work of art.
