Red, black and white stripe Bushido bag

Price £385.00

This red, black and white lamb’s wool and cotton bag is one of the Samurai “Bushido” collection of bags by StyleCurious featured Vivien Hew. The handbag is an original concept designed and constructed entirely by the artist. The bag’s designs were inspired by the stripes formed by Samurai armour. The woven bands on the handle were produced on a traditional inkle hand loom. Japanese Noh characters were the inspiration for the hand fabricated ceramic tassel heads. The bag closes with a silver clasp and has polyester taffeta lining. The measurements are 40 cms at widest, 30 cm high and the handle is 62 cm long. Please note that these bags are made to order, so allow up to four weeks from order till delivery.

The multidirectional stripes on these bags were drawn from the patterns of the scales on Samurai armour. The bags are made up of traditional Japanese materials, alongside unusual, innovative yarns to add a contemporary twist. A variety of techniques is used in the construction of each bag, including knitting, hand weaving, felting, dying, macramé, machine and hand embroidery, ceramic and metal work. Vivien has used discarded items with cherished luxurious materials to reflect the sustainable practices of the Samurai, who were great recyclers. They recycled booty on the battlefield and updated heirlooms so they could pass them down from generation to generation.
