Yuvinia Yuhadi

Knitted chair cover - Variety

Price £875.00

Curiously cute nature-inspired chair cover, hand-knitted by Alicia Whittaker from Leeds, UK, as part of Yuvinia Yuhadi’s ‘The Not-So-Ubiquitous Knitted Chairs’ project. Yuvinia is an Indonesian-born, London-based and newly graduated designer and each of her individually hand-crafted pieces will cover any inexpensive, plastic, garden chair, transforming it into a unique work of contemporary design art. Made from 50% acrylic and 50% wool, the chair cover measures approximately 70 inches (bottom circumference) x 35 inches high. This cover can be hand washed or dry cleaned, but please do not tumble dry.

Yuvinia’s chair covers are so original! The inspiration for this design, with its quirky flowers and bugs, comes from nature (in particular, Cohobblopot – the Bajan ‘crop-over’ festival). The pattern also features lace-style knitting and an elegant ribbon design trim. The curiously clever idea is that this knitted cover will transform a cold and sterile, basic plastic chair into something really cozy and inviting. Yuvinia explains that the concept was born from her “deep passion for knitting”. She loves to combine traditional craft techniques with modern materials and design to create high quality products that are of “increased emotional value to consumers”. These chair covers would make a useful addition to any home (or garden) – what’s more, they’re a collectors’ item too.
