Antique chintzy boudoir style
Whilst art and design led interiors still tend towards the minimalist, lovers of retro style and collectors of vintage memorabilia are snapping up genuine old fashioned vanity and dressing table sets, perfume bottles, trinkets and photograph frames to put on their French boudoir style kidney-shaped dressing tables. Accessories of chintzy boudoir style include hand embroidered brush and mirror sets, enamelled pots, hand painted Limoges porcelain trinket boxes, quilted silks and satins, floral chintz and toile de jouy fabrics.
This trend is far removed from kitsch, mass produced Kath Kidston type florals and cheaply made reproduction boudoir style storage jars, incorporating as it does original antique furniture and fabrics, along with individually handmade and embellished pieces. Items of vintage jewellery are even beginning to feature as quirky home accessories.
Some designers are also taking creative inspiration from the past by recreating similar items, or upcycling old dressing table accessories, with the addition of contemporary hand crafted textile designs. Below are some examples of hand sewn work by young designer, Rebecca Alice:
