Auto inspired fashion and accessories

Car design and motor racing style are filtering through to fashion and home accessories. For Celine’s Autumn Winter 2011/12 collection, Phoebe Philo drew her inspiration from luxury car interiors. The sharp, sleek silhouettes are inspired by the lines of Rolls Royces and Bentleys – and mahogany grain prints are in the style of a luxury car dashboard (photograph from Style.com).

Car inspired watches, like the Chopard Mille Miglia, are also becoming increasingly fashionable. A number of watch companies work in conjunction with car brands to produce collectable timepieces. Jaeger LeCoultre has a collaboration with Aston Martin and Breitling with Bentley. The Tag Heuer Monaco watch, as worn by Steve McQueen in the 1971 film, Le Mans, has acquired cult status.

Trend forecasting site, PSFK, has reported on product designs using automotive manufacturing techniques and racing inspired furniture. These car shaped wall lights by Joro Originals were spotted recently at a trade fair.
