What are you wearing?
Susan Muncey, mid-forties, London

I love this Mad Hatter meets Miss Havisham look. The outfit is by Vivienne Westwood from some years ago - I adore these mauve suede shoes of hers, complete with authentic Ascot champagne stains. I like to wear hats whenever the occasion arises - this one is custom made by Katherine Goodison. Sadly, that is not too often, so one has to make the most of every opportunity. My flair for fashion was awoken around the age of eight, when I was first introduced to Vogue. By the time I was 12, my mother refused to be seen with me, especially in my flourescent pink PVC raincoat.
I wasn't intentionally rebellious, I simply loved dressing up. Nowadays, I throw my outfits together according to occasion and mood - like a chef creating a plat du jour. Occasionally, my curiosity gets the better of me and I'll waste an hour experimenting (and another tidying up). Trying to keep up to date with all that's going on these days is impossible. I rely on magazines, the internet and instinct. I don't follow trends slavisly, but styles change over time, affecting all of us, whether we like it or not.
