Unique early 1960s signed vintage pendant from the west coast USA. The Swoboda brand of costume jewellery was favoured by Hollywood stars and dignitaries of the late 1950s and early ‘60s, including Nancy Reagan, who had some pieces specially commissioned.
This exquisite example features a wise man or Buddha seated in a garden of flowers carved from semi-precious stones including, jade, rice pearls, cultured pearls and coral – together with a bird, possibly a crane, whose eye is jewelled with a single red stone.
The pendant is just over 3 inches/variable 7 - 8 cm in diameter. The chain of the necklace is also of intricate design, and embellished with coral with an adjustable 12 inch/30 cm drop.
Necklace shown with black and gold Nirvana kimono gown, and preloved Prada ornate sunglasses.
