Each one of these unique clutch bags is up-cycled from a vintage Jacquard silk obi belt, sourced in Kyoto, and handcrafted in an haute couture atelier in Reims, France. One of a limited edition collection of five numbered pieces, this striking design features striped waves of bold colour incorporating gold, poppy red, orange, white and acid green on a black background, with black silk lining.
Known as 'seigaiha', or ‘blue ocean waves’, this pattern represents calm waves in the sea, signifying the desire for continued peaceful living. It is a symbol for peace and good fortune, and is meant to evoke the ebb and flow of life and fortune across time. Waves are a common motif for kimono and accessories worn by young women.
Every clutch comes with a removable gold chain, fastened inside the pouch, to enable it to be worn as a shoulder bag. There is also a pocket inside for mobile phone storage. This bag is delivered in a Paulownia wood case, traditionally used in Japan to store obi and kimono.
Measures 3 x 26 x 16 cm – ideal for day or evening use.
