This is a fabulous and very rare full length black velvet maxi skirt by Scottish fashion designer Bill Gibb (1943-1988).
From the seller's personal collection, this full circle skirt skirt is just as wearable today as it was back in the late 70s. The details are as follows:
Full length, full circle style Gathered at waist Fully lined Lined side pockets embroidered, in ivory cream, with Bill Gibb's signature stylised honey bee motif Side zip with large hook and eye fastening at waist Fully lined
Marked as size 12 UK, the skirt is better suited to today's size 10 - the measurements are:-
Waist - 27 inches (68.5cm) Hips - free size Length - top of waistband to hem - 44 inches (112cm)
The skirt is in wonderful condition with hardly any signs of wear. The seams and stitching are all perfectly intact; the lining is clean and unmarked; the velvet nap is undamaged (apart from one miniscule area of flattening close to the hem); the colour remains a deep black (I have lightened some of the photographs to show more of the skirt's detail)
A truly wonderful piece of fashion history!
Note - the top shown in the photographs is also by Bill Gibb but is not included with this listing.
