Each one of these unique clutch bags is up-cycled from a vintage Jacquard silk obi belt, sourced in Kyoto, and handcrafted in an haute couture atelier in Reims, France. One of a limited edition collection of five numbered pieces, this striking design features striped waves of bold colour incorporating gold, poppy red, orange, white and acid green on a black background, with black silk lining.
Known as 'seigaiha', or ‘blue ocean waves’, the pattern in the bottom left hand corner represents calm waves in the sea, signifying the desire for continued peaceful living. It is a symbol for peace and good fortune, and is meant to evoke the ebb and flow of life and fortune across time. Waves are a common motif for kimono and accessories worn by young women.
Every clutch comes with a removable gold chain, fastened inside the pouch, to enable it to be worn as a shoulder bag. There is also a pocket inside for mobile phone storage. This bag is delivered in a Paulownia wood case, traditionally used in Japan to store obi and kimono.
Measures 3 x 26 x 16 cm – ideal for day or evening use.
